The One is the closest thing to a road-legal Formula 1 car anyone has actually delivered. The engine is a 1.6-litre turbocharged V6 derived from Mercedes' F1 power unit, hybrid system included, and it revs far past anything else wearing a number plate. Production was capped at a few hundred cars, and the programme ran years late - largely because making an F1 engine idle in traffic turned out to be the hard part.
The trap is filming the aero. This car is covered in it - the roof scoop, the fin, the diffuser, the louvres - and shot badly it becomes a parts catalogue. The cut keeps returning to the whole shape, because the shape is the story: a Formula 1 car that has been asked to grow a windscreen and a boot lid.
Carbon also behaves nothing like paint under a fixed rig. Gloss gives you a hard highlight you can place; a visible weave gives you a repeating pattern the eye reads as texture and a sensor will turn into moiré if the move is wrong. It changes how fast the gimbal is allowed to travel across a panel.
